8 Tips for Summer Skin Care

Monday, May 2, 2016

No one has to tell you to wear sunscreen anymore – it’s common sense! With all the attention that skin cancer has received in recent years (which is great!), people are now more aware than ever about protecting themselves from the harmful rays of the sun. It’s important to care for your skin and use sunscreen year round, but there are also several other ways you can watch out for yourself! Here are 8 simple tips for summer skin care.

1. LUSCIOUS LIPS - Are you more of a glossy girl or a balm babe? For summertime, it’s best to lean more towards balm’s as they help lock in moisture and hydrate your lips for longer. Also, don’t forget to look for lip balms with an SPF of at least 15 – don’t want your kissers to get burned!

2. DON'T SCRATCH - Bug bites are inevitable and depending on where you live, they can be absolutely dreadful! Here in the south, we go through a lot of bug spray in the summertime! Be sure to keep (safe, read the ingredients first!) bug spray around and a cortisone cream on hand (for when the bites happen). Try to avoid scratching as this will only result in scabs and potential scars (yikes!)

3.WEAR PROTECTION - Protection for your face, that is. Avoid clogging your pores and causing potential breakouts by using a sunscreen designed specifically for your face. Some sunscreens can leave your face feeling oily and less than perfect. Your face is some of the most delicate skin on your body and deserves to be treated with respect. Sunscreen, or a moisturizer with SPF, should be a routine in your morning beauty regimen.

4. HIDE YOUR FACE - Okay, don’t actually hide your face, but don’t be afraid to wear a hat to help protect your face from being the recipient of some harsh sun rays! Not a fan of wearing hats? I’m not usually either, but there’s lots of options out there to try – from baseball caps, wide-brims, and even visors. I’d rather wear a hat any day that have a bright red Rudolph nose after a day outside!

5. SMOOTH IT OUT - Exfoliation is key to getting rid of dead skin cells and cleaning out your pores. For best results use a natural exfoliator two-four times a week (or as directed). This will help keep your face soft and smooth and will leave you feeling confident!

6. QUENCH YOUR THIRST - Adequate hydration is always important but is absolutely crucial during the summer months! Even if you don’t have a bottle of water handy, you can even consume foods that are composed of high water concentrations such as watermelon, blueberries, and cantaloupe!

7. TAKE IT OFF - Naturally, we all sweat more when it’s warm outside- some of us more than others! It’s so important to take off your sweaty clothes when they become noticeably damp! Back and chest bumps can become more problematic when there is wet clothing sitting on the skin for long periods of time. Taking a shower is another great solution to dealing with sweat and preventing the dreaded “bacne” (back acne).

8. RUB IT IN - It’s just as important to keep your skin hydrated as it is your body! Applying lotion after you shower is a great way to lock in moisture while providing nourishing hydration to your parched summer skin. This will help keep you summer glow looking on fleek!

Now get out there and safely enjoy the summer sunshine, love, you deserve it!
